Joel Kauth

Founding Partner

Joel has nearly 20 years of experience litigating intellectual property cases, including patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright cases. Prior to focusing his practice on intellectual property litigation, Joel spent time as a general civil litigator, handling numerous contract and business matters. With his focus on patent litigation, Joel has successfully enforced patents and defended clients in various federal courts around the county. Joel has developed a particular expertise in defending clients against the allegations of infringement by Non-Practicing Entities or “Patent Trolls”, often finding ways to avoid litigation in achieving positive client outcomes.

Joel has previously prosecuted patents and has a technical background in mechanical engineering. His experience in establishing his clients’ intellectual property rights provides him with a unique perspective in litigating patents. As the leader of the KPPB’s litigation practice, Joel works closely on every case with a small team of litigators. With this approach, Joel is able to devise and execute litigation strategies tailored to each client’s particular situation.
